Patrick McConaghy has been a language aficionado since his college days at the University of New Hampshire where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Secondary Education.
While abroad studying in Europe, Patrick compared his native tongue to the subtle nuances of British English in London and fine tuned his French speaking skills in Paris. He has also studied Latin, Spanish and Italian. Having lived in China for one year, he can speak conversational Mandarin.
Patrick has been meeting with students in the Tahoe area since he arrived in 2008. He supported international students at Sierra Nevada College with language and life skills. He also worked with Truckee Meadows Community College in town, serving the needs of non-native speakers. In addition, Patrick worked at Tahoe Expedition Academy, teaching English and supporting students with learning challenges.
From kindergarten to high school to college, Patrick possesses a unique ability to assess student needs and help them meet their goals. In addition, he excels at helping students feel comfortable while learning and makes sure they have fun. With an attention to detail and a passion for punctuation, Patrick will challenge you to fine tune your grammar skills. He enjoys editing papers and helping students find their true voice in writing. Katie McConaghy is a statistician, mathematician, educator, and entrepreneur. She graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education in 2003. She then went on to complete a Masters Degree in Statistics at San Diego State University. After graduating in 2005, Katie followed her passion for statistics into the actuarial science industry. She worked for an actuarial consulting firm specializing in non-life insurance. After spending almost three years gaining knowledge and experience she decided to take the leap back to academia. Since 2008 Katie has made education her main focus.
Katie founded High Tide Tutoring (HTT) in San Diego in 2009. High Tide Tutoring is a private tutoring company that strives to meet the needs of students everywhere. Since moving to Tahoe in 2010, she’s continued to manage HTT in San Diego from afar and expand her tutoring services to Tahoe. After hearing the needs of her community, Katie decided to open Tahoe Tutoring (TT) in August of 2017. Tahoe Tutoring provides a physical location for students to visit and receive the help they need for all their learning needs.
In addition to managing HTT and TT, Katie keeps her teaching skills sharp, working as an online college professor for various US colleges. She is passionate about education and strives to break down geographic limitations to meet the academic needs of students across the country.

Angie is passionate about teaching and recognizes the potential in every child. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development from San Jose State University, and went on to earn her Masters of Education Degree and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from the University of California at Santa Barbara. As a dedicated classroom teacher for the past 18 years she has given instruction in math, reading, and writing to kindergarten, 3rd grade and 5th grade students. She developed an after school peer tutoring program in order for students to receive individualized instruction and additional support. Her goal as an educator is to develop lifelong learners who never give up and strive to do their personal best. Having relocated from the Bay Area, Angie has taken advantage of the outdoor activities the Tahoe region has to offer. She can be found skiing, boating, hiking with her dog, and spending time with her family

Ryan was born in Omaha, Nebraska and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. During his time as an undergraduate Ryan studied Spanish and International Business while playing on the golf team. He studied abroad in Alicante, Spain during his junior year. While living and studying in Spain he honed his Spanish skills, developed a love for Spanish culture, and deepened his love for international travel.
Upon graduation from Nebraska Wesleyan, Ryan returned to Europe to teach English. After receiving his Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate in Paris, Ryan took a teaching position in Sevilla, Spain. There he taught English to students aged 5 through 16 at an English Academy. His time teaching in Spain led him to pursue a teaching career when he returned to the United States.
After studying and earning his teaching license, Ryan began teaching high school Spanish in Omaha. In addition to teaching he also helped out with the boys and girls golf teams, and was the assistant cross country coach. After 7 years of teaching Ryan recently moved to Incline Village with his wife and two dogs. In his free time Ryan enjoys running, golfing, reading, and supporting his Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Nathan Prins mostly grew up in rural Maryland. He went to Towson University in nearby Baltimore to get his BS in Physics. At Towson, Nathan created an award-winning program in which members volunteered weekly at an after school program to run hands-on scientific demonstrations and experiments. In addition, he organized and participated in multiple scientific outreach events. Nathan was also involved in research for three years. During that time, he completed summer internships at national labs in Chicago and Germany, presented at nine research conferences, and co-authored a scientific paper.
After graduating, Nathan moved to San Diego to work at a scuba diving shop. Wanting to stay connected to STEM, he often held private tutoring sessions after work, mostly for high school and college students. After two years, he moved to Hawai’i to pursue his graduate degree. His favorite part of this was being a teaching assistant. His duties included teaching sections of the undergrad lab class and running group problem sessions that supplemented the undergrad lectures.
Outside of teaching, Nathan spends his time rock climbing with his wife who is also a physicist. He plans to finish his PhD and his wife wants to start graduate school in physics. Nathan is excited to give back to the community through tutoring.

Brittney recently moved to the Lake Tahoe area from the Bay Area. She grew up in Sonoma County but was excited for a change in scenery. She has been working in education for several years and loves to work with students in English, reading and writing. She completed her BA at Dominican University of California and loves the school so much she decided to pursue her MA there. This experience led her to teach reading to all age groups and start private tutoring for college students while she went to school full-time. After graduation, Brittney was offered a tutoring position in Mill Valley and grew to love after-school/test-prep tutoring while also broadening her subject areas. This is where she began to tutor mathematics to a wide age range of students and really engage herself in the learning process. Brittney finds it fun and interesting to work with students on their logic and watch their critical thinking develop at different points in their education. Her favorite part of tutoring is the relationships she builds with students as they cultivate a positive connection with education and learning. She is extremely excited to work with the students in the Tahoe area through Tahoe Tutoring.
In her free time, Brittney is an avid reader and writer. Her favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien and Edgar Allen Poe. They have inspired her own writing; she has been published four times. When she isn’t reading or writing, Brittney is outside among the trees or spending time with her niece and nephew, making Tahoe the perfect place to live for her.

Brian Fink grew up in a military household and moved around while growing up. His father retired and settled in Santa Clarita, California where Brian attended middle and high school. Brian soon realized two things: he loves to travel and meet new people, and big city life is exciting but he doesn’t want to live the metropolitan life. After high school, Brian went to Humboldt State University to earn a degree in pure mathematics. Soon after, he pursued his teaching credentials in California and has been teaching in the Lake Tahoe area for four years. Brian is in the process of completing a Masters in Education from Humboldt State University as well.
For as long as he can remember, Brian has vacationed in Lake Tahoe in the summer and has always wanted the opportunity to move here. When North Lake Tahoe High School presented a full-time position as a math teacher, Brian embraced the opportunity to enjoy life at the lake. Brian has always worked with students and children at birthday parties, as a camp counselor, and as a tutor in college. Brian enjoys working with others, helping students reach their goals, and sharing his love of math.

Wilder was raised in Portland, Oregon, in a household that embraced learning in many forms, both inside and outside the classroom. From a young age, he developed interests in science and mathematics, due largely to the mentorship from his parents. His father was a zoologist and high school biology teacher; his mother taught earth science and is a practicing civil engineer.
Motivated by his parents and influential teachers, Wilder furthered his interests at Santa Clara University, earning Bachelors of Science degrees in both physics and mathematics. While there, he provided weekly tutoring in these subjects to SCU students, attending to their various learning styles, and emphasizing intuitive, visual, and engaging approaches towards problem solving. He aims to bring these values to his work with Tahoe Tutoring to achieve greater understanding among students, and an appreciation for the beauty and richness offered by science, mathematics, and language arts.
Though teaching and learning are his two biggest passions, Wilder also enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including running, hiking, rock climbing, skimboarding, and snowboarding. He is excited to meet new students and take advantage of the recreational opportunities offered by Lake Tahoe.

Daniel first began tutoring while he was in high school at Bishop Manogue in Reno, in order to make money to buy Magic cards. His priorities have since shifted a bit, but he continues to enjoy sharing his acquired skills to help others improve. His love of games and other logical systems led him to pursue a degree in mathematics from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA, and then to begin working as a software engineer. After a few years in industry, Daniel decided to move back closer to home and to start earning a teaching certification from the University of Nevada, Reno. After some time in the classroom, Daniel found that he most enjoyed his tutoring sessions after school and with students from the Special Education program, which led him to contact Tahoe Tutoring. Daniel is currently working towards a Master's in Computer Science, and hopes to one day develop software tools to help teachers and students organize their education.
In his free time, Daniel enjoys music, dance, and video games. He has performed with the Sierra School of Performing Arts in Reno and Inner Rhythms in Truckee, and started learning ballet in 2019. His favorite video game series is the Legend of Zelda, due to its emphasis on quick thinking, solving problems, and exploration.
